Franshoek Mountain Lodge lies in a secluded valley in the heart of cherry growing district of the Eastern Free State - a dramatic landscape of sheer sandstone cliffs and gentle green slopes scattered with an abundance of wild flowers.
The lodge is surrounded by an area of exceptional beauty with caves and waterfalls to explore, dams to fish in and walking trails to please everyone from the casual stroller to the serious hiker.
With only ten rooms, we provide an intimate, easy going, family friendly lodge which appeals to all generations. The heart of the lodge is a charming, thatched sandstone building where guests can relax at the bar or enjoy a delicious meal; Thai food is the house specialty. On the cooler evenings, a roaring log fire creates the perfect atmosphere for an evening of games or music and many guests find themselves getting to know strangers who end up as enduring friends.
The bedrooms are situated in the old farmhouse which is attached to the lodge and each has its own access to our beautiful gardens which are home to a menagerie of creatures including tortoises, sheep, cats, dogs, horses and a pot bellied pig called Lily.
Up behind the guest buildings is a spectacular, sandstone edged swimming pool-with-a-view where lunches can be served in summer. In the evenings we fire up our African Steam Hut where you can detox and take a dip in a truly remarkable setting. The pool area is enclosed, so parents can relax, knowing that their children are safe. A babysitting service can be arranged and baby monitors are also available on request.
We have recently built a thatched cottage with two double bedrooms and a wooden deck reached by a spiral staircase where children can sleep. The master bedroom has a king sized bed, slipper bath and one-way glass looking out to a beautiful view of the mountains.
